Stupid Shit April

Literally! I kid you not if it could happen, it did this April. 1. Got locked out of the house by Buster. My favorite stupid dog locked the sliding glass door while I was outside. Great neighbor to the rescue with a 16 foot ladder for me to break in the bedroom upstairs. 2. The electric went off in the middle of the night. I thought I reset the clock, but actually was changing the time for the alarm. Woke up an hour late for work. 3. Started car on a chilly morning, only to lock my keys in the car. Thanks to number , a hide-a-key to the rescue. This would not have been so bad if the car wasn't running. 4. Left soda in the car for it to explode all over the front seat, window, and me. April, I am so happy today is your last. Please take stupid shit with you. I don't want to play anymore!

Socks on a Plane

Image
socks on a plane Originally uploaded by knittingkim Oh, these feel good on the toes. They are a perfect fit. Handspun yarn adds a little thickness to the fabric. I knit them using a size 1.5. I used nearly all the yarn I had, about 330 yards. I also started a new shawl project. More to come.

Quilty Barn Along #5

Image
This is really coming along nicely. I made the Maple leaf for the 5th quilty barn. Today I put the rest of the barn together and added all the sashing around the squares. Each block when finished will measure out to 20 inches, before any other borders the basic 12 blocks will be 60 X 80, unless I end up with something bigger. I might try quilting as I go on this guy. I am interested in the technique, and it would be easier on my machine than trying to shove the whole under it at one time. More to come on that as it gets closer. Well with without more babbling, here's this week's progress:

Socks on a Plane - Speed Bump Edition

The first one I finished last weekend, and started the second. I plugged along diligently making it through the heel turn yesterday. I gathered up the first and second to try the two on together to ensure a happy fit and progress. Well, that's when I found my disaster! The cable is suppose to be on the outside of the foot and leg, but I did not think about the revering the pattern for the second sock. Rookie mistake I should know better. Well, at least, I didn't finish the whole darn thing before I found my error of my ways. Do over started with about 3 1/2 inches of progress for today. It will be fine.

Double T Take 2

Image
This is the second Double T square for the Then quilt. It was a little trickier than the last, but it turned out just fine. One quarter of the year through for this bad boy. More to come.

Raising Barn number 4

This is really a ton of fun. Monkey wrench is the pattern for the quilt square. So fast and easy. I can tell how much my skills have improved in such a short time.

Pralines and Cream

Image
I just love Carmel and creamy colors. They truly are pretty together. I went to my quilting group last month and I mentioned that I hate pink. The woman who I was speaking to said,"Of you do. You are all earthy." I thought it was interesting since she really has only met me for like 5 minutes, but it really made me realize just how much better I look in earthy colors. As a kid, mom always dressed me in the fashionable pinks and pastels. I think until I was in my twenties, I tended to wear the wrong colors. I also think that as I get older it is much more obvious as to what I should wear as opposed to what is the fad. This is so far off topic, I can't believe anyone is still reading. Back to the quilt top. I took a pack of 2 1/2 inch strips of 42 to make this lovely, but rather plain little quilt top. I think it needs something dark around the border to make the colors and patterns pop out. I need to take it to the shop to get some border ideas. It needs to be larger,

Socks on a Plane

Image
Socks on a Plane Originally uploaded by knittingkim As promised Socks on a Pane. I am actually further on this one than the picture shows. I'm beginning the gusset. I like the pattern. There is just enough pattern to add interest, but not so much that you can't zone out. The yarn is a fiber from Fiber Geek. I think the cold way name is Ocean waves. I am using a size one. I think they will be very squishy.

Barn Raising Good Time Weekend

Image
Yeah, I am a country girl, more at heart than anything. I ran across a new really cool quilt along. Again with the quilts. I was reading Bee in my Bonnet's blog the other night when I ran acrossed it. How cool, quilts on the side of a barn. Neat idea. I love barns, and I am very traditional as to the fact they must be red and black. Anyway there will be a total of 12 blocks that will be offered. The squares will be at least 16 inches each. If hubby likes it, it may end up bigger as we need a summer weight blanket for our bedroom. If not, it will be for me; and I can love it just fine. Without further ado.... the first three blocks.... They will get a frame of muslin later to make them 16 inches square. Back to Socks on a Plane.

Autunm Dew

Image
Autunm Dew Originally uploaded by knittingkim I finally finished the second sock. Too bad it's a little different from the other. No worries. It won't show when they are on. I wore them yesterday, and they stayed up all day. Perfect fit. Mods - 64 stitches around the cuff. Then decreased 4 to get to the pattern count of 60. There is a lot of sideways stretch, so go with even if you are a normal 64 stitch person.

Some Spinning Going On

Image
I feel like my wheels are feeling slightly neglected. Poor babies. I have been spinning, but quilting has really been the biggest part of my crafting life recently. If you know me,you already know that's how it goes. Anyway, I did spin a couple of lovely, delicious yarns. Daybreak is a graduation colorway, but I wanted the colors to barber pole into each other. It's more orange than the pink that shows up. This was a Painted Tiger club fiber. Soldier's Field. I feel in love with this Dyeabolical colorway. I love high contrasting colors and this just screamed buy me. Tomarrow I will share my attack of the socks....
